History

John Hobbs always been involved from an early age in Motorsport when his father used to take him to his local circuit Croft to watch the car racing in the 60's, he had always been around cars and thanks to his cousin Brian Lockwood was able to go and help out at his garage in Whexham Road , Slough .
As an apprentice at ICI Wilton he met Pete Boettcher a talented Trials Rider, and from following him and a lack of money he took to two wheels rather than four, After moving to Guisborough John found a friend in neighbour Geoff Towers a local Club Racer who introduced him to the Biking fraternity of Guisborough, mainly based in the "The Black Swan" It was there that he met a regular core of racers and ex racers there was Alan Stewart, Alan Smith (Big Al) the father of Jarrod Smith the 500 GP Motocross Ace, Gordon Smith, John Topham, Sean Muir, Mike Mackenzie, Stuart Taylor, Richard "Titch"Glass, Steve Leer, John "Taff" Davies and the Jacksons. It was from there that he went to watch the racing from the Pit Side and became hooked. The additions of Deborah and Dennis to the Hobbs Family meant that they were taken along to Moto Cross and Road Race Meetings from an early age.

When Dennis showed an real interest in riding a motobike, aged 4 after watching Jarrod Smith at a MX meeting at Boltby, his father manage to borrow Jarrods cousins QR50, Dennis took to it instantly, and with the help of Geoff Towers he bought Dennis a Italjet 50 and then an XR75. At this time Dennis had been riding the Shale Heaps at Charlton for 4 years, As Dennis' Dad had other commitments it was Alan Stewart who used to take Dennis to Charltons with his son Simon, on returning after a Saturdays visit Alan suggested to John that he should do something to get Dennis involved more formally as he had noticed Dennis's ultra competitive attitude, towards other Bikers, he would race anyone.

John looked at what he could get Dennis involved in and entered him in a beach race at Redcar . He came second on a 10yr old XR75. From there a new KX 60 was bought and an close family association with MX followed, Only cancelled meetings and Remembrance days stopped the family from going racing, with a best year of 47 weekends out of 52 racing. 14 Schoolboy Championships followed for Dennis, until a severe injury in which he lost 75% of the movement in his right arm put him out for 2 seasons. Dennis returned to Racing on a RM 125, even after 2 years out he still managed to come 8th in the Supernational and 5th in his first ever supercross at the Sheffield Arena. It was at this time that he was approached by Shaun Muir who was now
running his own Supersport Team, that he was asked if he would like to try road racing, .....
